Fall in referrals to the Reporter

The latest statistics from the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) reveal that there was a 16.9% drop in the number of referrals to the Reporter over the past year.

Overall, in 2014/15, 15,858 children and young people were referred to the Reporter.  Of these, 14,141 were on non-offence (care and protection) grounds (down 19.1% on 2013/14 levels), while 2,891 referrals were made on offence grounds (up 4.6%).

Other statistics include:

  • 1.7% of children and young people in Scotland were referred to the Reporter in 2014/15;
  • 13.3% of those referred were under the age of two;
  • 754 children and young people were given Child Protection Orders; and
  • 3,223 children and young people were given new Compulsory Supervision Orders.
