Judicial Discipline Consultation

A consultation has been launched by the Office for Judicial Complaints (OJC) on proposed changes to the procedures concerning the handling of complaints relating to and discipline of judges.

The OJC was set up on 3rd April 2006, to handle complaints and provide advice and assistance to the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice in the performance of their joint role considering and determining complaints about the personal conduct of all judicial office holders in England and Wales and some judicial office holders who sit in Tribunals in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The consultation sets out 21 recommendations for improvement to the complaints process. They aim to streamline the process to deliver a just, efficient system that is proportionate and balances transparency with the need for confidentiality.

Comments are sought by 23rd May 2012.
